Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions that receive federal funding. This includes discrimination based on sex, sexual harassment, and sexual violence, such as rape, sexual assault, sexual coercion, stalking, and domestic/intimate partner violence. While Title IX is often associated with athletics, it is much broader, applying to all programs and activities at the University of South Alabama. The University strictly prohibits sex or gender-based harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

The Title IX Office is committed to supporting the university's mission of fostering an environment where all students, faculty, staff, and visitors are free from discrimination, harassment, and violence. We offer leadership, guidance, and resources regarding Title IX regulations, including prevention programming focused on addressing sex discrimination and sexual violence. We take all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously and will respond promptly and thoroughly, ensuring that all complaints are investigated and resolved in accordance with the university's Sexual Misconduct Policy.

In addition to addressing issues related to sexual misconduct, Title IX also protects individuals from discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, recovery from these conditions, and parenting responsibilities. The law guarantees that employees and students have the right to request reasonable accommodations related to pregnancy and parenting, ensuring that they can fully participate in academic and work activities.

The Title IX Office is here to support faculty and staff in creating a respectful and inclusive environment for everyone. We provide fair and equitable services and resources to address both discrimination and harassment, including support for those needing accommodations related to pregnancy or parenting.

We are committed to helping all members of the university community thrive, free from discrimination and harassment. Please reach out to the Title IX Office with any questions or concerns.
