Evaluation of Applicants

  • We use a holistic review of every OB/GYN residency applicant by the same 3-member committee
  • We recognize and value a broad array of formative experiences, including “distance traveled”
  • We require only the passing of USMLE Step 1 and 2 exams or COMLEX 1 and 2 to be considered as an applicant
  • We offer a "Health Equity Visiting Student Scholarship" for qualified students for financial aid stipends for away rotations at our program.

The University of South Alabama OB/GYN Residency Program participates in Residency CAS. Basic criteria for applying to our residency program include:

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A SLOE is required and can be one of the three letters
  • Medical school transcript
  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Verification of Pass Step 1/Step 2 Exams or COMLEX 1 and 2 Exams

Invitations to interview with available dates will be extended by our program coordinator and are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis through ResidencyCAS.  All interviews will be conducted virtually on the ResidencyCAS platform. The interview day schedule will include presentations by the Residency Program Director and the Administrative Chief Resident. Applicants will interview with the Residency Program Director, other faculty, and two residents.

Applicants are also strongly encouraged to participate in our virtual hangout with the current residents before the interview. The virtual hangout provides an excellent opportunity to get to know our residents in a more relaxed setting.

Information on residency programs at USA, including resident salaries and benefits, is included on our website.
